A solid season which has seen us take points off every team in the league with the exception of the league winners BJFF. Although I think we had a good season in finishing fourth, a few more results going our way would have turned it into a great season and even possibly challenging the top two, we really need to start finishing teams off if we want to challenge for honours which I believe is a real possibility next season. There were many highlights of the season including the two victories over Staining and the credible draw with Wyre but I think many of you will agree the final game of the season will take some beating, we played Kirkham for the third time in just four weeks, the first game was a very exciting 0-0 draw, so nothing could have prepared me for the second game, after a goalless first half I felt really confident that we could go on and win the game and then in the next ten minutes we found ourselves 5-0 down, I was still in shock when Kirkham added a sixth from the spot, what made the defeat worst was that the gazette had decided to cover our game that week so not only had we had to take the defeat on the Sunday but we had to read about it all week. So to the third game and to be honest I had no idea what to expect, I had spoken to the boys at training on Wednesday and made sure they had all seen the gazette and how much that must of hurt and that they had the chance to put it right straight away, also at the time our record was played 20 won 9 drawn 2 and lost 9, so I mentioned to the boys if we can win this last game we would end up winning more games than we lost over the season, me and Brian have often said you can tell before a game with this set of lads whether their going to perform or not and this was one of those moments, we really looked up for this one, before the game started we had decide if we win the toss we would play into the wind for the first half ,something we have never done before, Kirkham possibly started the better but created no chances with our back three in no mood to give anything away, after about ten minutes a long ball by Simon down the left found Jordan who cleverly beat one player and squared the ball to Phil who calmly slotted the ball home, 1-0 up and we were flying, chances were coming but there keeper made some fine stops to keep the score down to one, the way the lads were playing I thought nothing would deny us victory and then the most bizarre moment I have ever seen happened, one of their players went down injured in our box, so everyone started trying to get the refs attention to stop the game, at this point, their manager, Brian and Alan were on the pitch seeing to their striker who was clearly in some pain, with everyone thinking the game had been stopped the ball was near the halfway line when their defender hit it towards our goal, the ball bounced into the empty net and the ref gave the goal, incredible, at half time the lads were clearly and understandingly upset (But not as upset as me ha). We calmed them down and asked them to try and put it right in the second half, the second half started and we created more and more chances including two goal line clearances, could we get the winner we so rightly deserved, with about thirty seconds remaining we got a throw down the right which Calum launched long to Phil who swung in the cross for Ryan Hancock yes Ryan Hancock to smash the ball into the roof of the net from ten yards (we have had words with Ryan and to this day we still do not know what he was doing that far up the pitch but glad he was ha ha) to send the rangers faithful into raptures, a great win and a fitting climax to the season. May I once again take this opportunity to thank C cabs for sponsoring the team for the last two seasons and also a big thank you to our new sponsors Nimmo & Cooper Solicitors, who will sponsor us for the next two seasons, without these companies sponsoring junior football, it would struggle to continue, Brian and Alan, for again all there hard work with training and in games and sometimes just calming me down during games ha, Susan for sorting all the subs and dealing with our winter training at the college, Steve once again for our fantastic website, and finally to Vicky who does a lot of work behind the scenes for me and the sake of the team. Skegness was our third tour in as many years and what a tour it was, we played some fantastic football over the weekend and just missed out on the final by goal difference and that was after beating the eventual winners 1-0. What I was more proud of, was the fact that we once again came home with fair play award (2nd time in 3 years) to me this is a great honour that every player, parent and coach should be extremely proud of, as it shows what we are about. This year will see us once again fly the blue and white flag, this time in Minehead, lets try and bring home the winners trophy this year lads but most importantly enjoy yourselves and good luck. Finally, I can’t believe that the season is over so soon, every year it seems to go that little bit quicker. (Maybe it’s because we play less games each year ha) I hope everyone has enjoyed it as much as I have, the team has defiantly improved from last year and I am very proud of every one of them, once again I think we have a fantastic parent group who support me and the team with great enthusiasm. I for one am looking forward to next season. Bring it on! Regards, Ian |
